Lesson: Storytelling

Grade: Pre-K/K

Learning Targets:
1. I can use a wordless picture book to help me be creative in storytelling.
2. I can use a clear speaking voice when I story tell.

Description:
· Using wordless picture books and know picture books, children will use their creativity to story tell. After days of practice, children will work in pairs to story tell three panel of pictures (that does not have any words) in their own words, expression and tone in the form of a story. This will then be recorded on a Flip Camera.

Materials:
· Flip Camera
· Multiple copies of any appropriate wordless picture books and known picture books
· Appropriate panels of pictures that have a sequential order with no words.

Timeframe: 3 sessions of 20-25 minutes

Procedure:
· Day 1: Review the concept of storytelling and story elements. Teacher models with a known picture book of techniques to do storytelling. Children practice as a whole group to story tell with another know picture book.
· Day 2: Revisit the concept of storytelling. Children practice again storytelling with a wordless picture book in a whole group.
· Day 3: Revisit the concept of storytelling. Children practice again storytelling with a wordless picture book in a whole group.
· Day 4: Using a panel of three pictures, children will work in pairs to story tell. This will be presented as a whole group as a share. Each pair's story will be captured by a Flip Camera.

Assessment:
· Teacher observations and Flip Camera will be used as an assessment tool to see if children have met the three learning targets.
